Who says there's nothing to do in Minot?

I was just thinking today of everything going on this month and thought it was worth a post. You may find yourself looking for something fun to do this month and it seems as though the nice weather has finally arrived! Just off the top of my head:

9-2-09: Young Professionals Ambassador Team Bring Your Own Picnic
Casual, bring your own food, meeting by the splash pad in Oak Park. 5:30-7:30 Come socialize or bring the kids for a playdate.

9-3-09: Youth Outdoor Festival
Never been to this, but it sounds interesting. 5:30-7:30 at the ND State Fairgrounds Game and Fish Pond Area. Local wildlife clubs will host outdoor activities for area youth! Waterfowl, upland game, fishing, archery, and more outdoor activities! Come join us for outdoor education, BBQ prizes and more!

9-05-09: MSU's first home football game. Tailgating and a 'Red Out' and hello....FREE FOOD! Go Beavers!!

Labor Day weekend: Motor Magic
Drag Racing, Historic Military Vehicle Display, Nodak Speedway Racing, Motorcycle Poker Run, Classic Car Auction, Classic Car Show, SCCA Auto Cross, Enduro Race, Demolition Derby, Vendor Displays, Simulated Impaired Driving Experience, Vintage & Racing Snowmobile Display

9-10-09: Chamber Business After Hours at the Norsk Hostfest
Always a good time to socialize and network. Hostfest is in September this year. UffDa

9-12-09: Downtown Fall Festival
Fun for the family. We like to check out the places downtown, including the Railroad museum. My son loves trains and we even walked away with some 'Thomas' treasures last year and a conductors hat. Festival filled with dance and drumline performances, classic car show, carnival games, bingo, rhubarb baking contest, craft and food booths, historic Minot book signing and presentation, and Farmer's Market. There will also be a petting zoo, horse and trailer rides, in store demonstrations, scavenger hunt, Classic Rock DJ, and so much more!

9-13-09: Grandparents Day at the Zoo
Free for grandma and gramps to take the little ones. And our zoo rocks!! We love it there. My son's favorites are the Otters and Giraffes. Penguins are always cute, too!

9-14-09: Young Professionals Network Membership Meeting
If you are between the ages of 21-39 and haven't checked out what YP is all about, here is your chance. Grand International at 6:30. Current members can also take care of their dues (a whole $25 a year) and offer input for what they would like to see in the next year. At 7:30, Dr. John Girard will presenting Social Media for Business Purposes and afterward, there will be a cash bar and Monday Night Football on the big screen.

9-15-09: YP Power Hour
Grand International 12:05pm. Lunch and speaker Alan Walter, Public Works Director, talking about infrastructure projects going on in and around Minot. Who knew this stuff would ever interest me, but it is a nice chance to hear things you may never have heard before. Any type of professional development is a good thing, not to mention, to know the ins and outs of what's going on in our community.

9-17-09: Downtown's Association Wine Walk
Oh my my, did I have fun at this last year. Not only do you get to sample wine (and a little sock-it-to-ya Saki) in every establishment downtown, there is food and socializing. Should your goal be to fill up your passport, make sure you have a DD waiting for you (or they will provide a ride home if you need it)! I think this idea is just great. It's a wonderful way to visit businesses downtown that you may never known existed before. Very cool!

9-17-09: The View's Best Burger Cook-off Benefit
If Burgers and Beer are more your thing, this may be the way to go. IT sounds interesting to me. Probably because everyone at the View is so awesome and those ol' folks just know how to have a good time!! (Did you know they have Happy Hour and a bar at The View?) This event is a fundraiser to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association. Local celebrities will begin judging the burgers at 4:30pm. Following the judging, diners are welcome to sample the burgers any time between 5pm and 6:30pm. To complete the meal, beans, chips and condiments will be provided. A cash bar will also be available.

9-19-09: Souris Valley Garlic and Grape Festival
More wine!! I haven't been to this before, but it sounds fun. (Bring your Altoids) Hosted by Zone 3A Lions Clubs. Wine tasting, garlic laced foods, and craft booths. Educational classes and entertainment offered all day. Festival hours are 11:00 am to 7:00 pm

9-21-09: Unity in Our Community
YP and MSU team up together again this year to bring an informative speaker to our community. Bill Rancic is slated to speak this year at Ann Nicole Nelson Hall at 6:30pm. For those that don't know, Bill Rancic was Trump's original Apprentice and can be seen on the A&E channel series, "We Mean Business" Saturday mornings. His bio is filled with much success, so it should prove to be a very interesting and informative evening.

9-21-09 thru 9-26-09 MSU Homecoming Week
Lots and lots of events to take it. Support your community's University! If you haven't been on the campuses of MSU in awhile, take some time to visit and attend some events. It's sure a lot different from the days I was there! Go Beavers!

9-26-09: Kiwanis Pancake Day
I've never been, but I'm thinking everyone should go get their grub on before the MSU Homecoming festivities for the day!

9-26-09: MSU Homecoming Football
Parade in the morning. And again, tailgating and football in the fall. I don't think many could ask for more...I know my husband would agree

9-26-09: YP MSU Homecoming United Way Social
Come to the Barley Pop after the MSU Homecoming football game (5pm-8pm) for all you can eat and drink (keg beer) for just $10. Door prizes will be given away throughout the event. 100% of the proceeds will go to the Souris Valley United Way. Rah Rah Rah and a keg of beer!

So there you have it. Nothing like a Community Calendar by Candace, huh? I'm sure there are a lot more things going on around town. It looks like September will prove to be a very fun filled month with my family and friends!
