First Birthday Invites

Here are the invites I designed for the party. They also included a special instruction cards for a time capsule we made for my daughter to open on her 21st Birthday. (click on the photo for a larger version) My son had a time capsule at his baby shower, but as it turned out, we never had a shower for my daughter. So, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity for her to have her own.

First Birthday continued....

Treat bags (girls on right, boys on left) for the kids included themed penguin and snowman straws, puzzles, lip gloss, activity books and candy.

I designed the cupcake toppers and then added colorful paper backing from Chistmas cards (matching the treat bags) and various scrapbook papers. In our family, we refer to the Gluten Free items as food for 'special tummies' so they were named appropriately.

More personalized cupcake toppers for the birthday girl!!

Among the cupcakes and cookies for guests, the birthday girl got her very own small cake! The banner was also an original design that I printed and cut out and used adorable pink ribbon to tie it all together.

All of the treats had cards designed to go along with the appropriate foods. I added Sweet & Flour's logo, too.

The birthday girl's special cake.

More treats! Once again, all of my entertaining dishes that I have from selling Southern Living at Home products in the past came in rather handy. This little versatile vase held licorice adorned with ribbons.

THE HIT OF THE PARTY! These absolutely adorable penguin cake pops stole the show. Chef Shanda really went all out creating these lovely little guys complete with M&M ear muff and Tic-Tac noses! The container was something I already had (again, picked it up at an after Christmas sale one year at Target!) and matched the theme nicely.

First Birthday Winter Candyland

I'm so excited to finally show you the pics from my daughter's first birthday! While I am no Hostess With the Mostest or Martha Stewart, I was completely inspired by them. The Winter Candyland theme was an idea snatched from Fresh Chick Design Studio with my personal design touch. We had plenty of WINTER and SNOW this year, so combined with many sweet treats from Sweet & Flour, it turned out to be one SWEET first birthday fitting of our theme! I have never had so much fun planning a party! Not too bad for a first try, right?

My partner in providing all the goodies for the party was Sweet & Flour, a BRAND NEW bakery/catering business by Pastry Chef Shanda Cool. And as luck would have it, her (fellow graphic designer) hubby Patrick Sheldon was kind enough to get some sweet snaps of the event!

I actually had more planned for the event display, but when the guests start arriving you must drop the ribbons, candy and curls and greet them! (ah, the lack of time....get's me everytime!)

Guests were greeted with plenty of snow and candy/snowflake/penguin sticks

No party is complete without special artwork for the birthday girl from big brother. The event was held at the Carnegie Center and they have all guests sign their guestbook.

The display!

Sweet & Flour had various cookies. The Dress Me Up platter was something I had from back in the Southern Living at Home days!

Chef Shanda holds up the inspiration for the party, sweet little penguins and snowmen plates and napkins found at the after Christmas sale at Target. More detail to follow on how I pulled off the most frugal first birthday party ever!

We have some members of the family and their kids who have Celiac Disease, so Chef Shanda made special GLUTEN FREE cupcakes especially for them, coupled with cupcake picks I designed.

images snagged from West Elm. ( heart you!)

More Local Talent

Today I'm featuring work from Margo Haskins. She paints on chairs and has some cute ideas. I have a wooden table and chairs that I've always wanted to paint for my son. Perhaps this will give me some inspiration to get it done! Fun stuff. Take a peek.

You're My Inspiration

I can't seem to say the title of this post without singing that old tune from Chicago..."You bring meaning to my life, you're the inspiraaaaaation...."

Ok, maybe that's just me. Anyhow, I have been having a lot of fun planning my daughter's first birthday party and I have come across a whole community of talented women who have given me so much inspiration! My 'day job' has been getting me down lately, so I thank these ladies for sharing all their fabulous ideas online. It has provided a spark I really needed.

Something to hang on the fridge

My son already loves to paint and draw, so naturally his next step is Adobe Illustrator, right? ;-)
