Holiday Wood Blocks

Here are some holiday wood blocks I made this weekend. I thought these little pieces of "Holi-swag" would be cute on a desk over the Christmas season.

Custom Uppercase Living For An Office Breakroom

There seems to be a lot of interest in a custom design that I had done for an office break room. If you would like to order the same thing, I have created a 'recipe' which can be modified however you wish. If you just want to order this exact size, color, fonts, etc. simply login to my UL website http://candace.uppercaseliving.net and click on the Custom Design Tool. There should be a 'shared' design on the left sidebar that you can click and order.

Decorating A Dollhouse: A Mommy-Daughter Date Night

Last night was the night to decorate my daughter's dollhouse. I actually picked this up at an estate sale unfinished and vowed that we would paint it and spice it up a bit! Her and Grandma painted the outside and last night was our night to finish the inside together.

We've been mixing paints lately and learning color combinations so I usually have her start with just the primaries and white and black. Naturally she went for red and white and exclaimed that the inside shall be pink! (Of course it should!) So, she was in charge of the paint job. Then she announced that I should finish the decorating and surprise her while she took a bath. (Note: bath time is not enough time to 'finish' a dollhouse!)

But I was able to get a quick decorating job done. ;-) When bath time was over, she came to see what I had done. She gasped, "So cool!" So I guess I did ok.

Here is the start of our project and the progress we've made so far. The additions made during bath-time were scrapbook paper and modge podge. We may just add some curtains tonight!

This was another donation piece for a Burlington, ND woman who is battling lymphoma. It was placed on silent auction. I wonder who bought it?!?!

Logo Design: When You Really Nail It!

"I don't even have words. You have made me tear up and... I don't even have words. It's really, real. You have gone above and beyond and slam dunked our idea."

"Seriously... so, so perfect! You really get us!!!! I can't even pick a favorite. They are all perfect."

These are a few comments that I recently received after sending the first few concepts of a logo design. Let me tell you, nothing fills my heart with such joy than to hear this kind of response from a design I have presented. In my day job, I don't really get to hear any of this positive feedback. A lot of times, I mostly get to hear what they DIDN'T like about it. So, not every project goes this well. But this was a logo done for a friend and her business partner (now friend, too!) where I probably feel even more pressure to get it just right!

With each design, whether for a friend or a stranger, I try to understand what 'the client' wants and what we need to communicate about their businesses. I try to capture the essence of that business. I try to add personality where needed or professionalism where required. I try to nail it each and every time. But when I really do nail it, in both my mind and the clients' eyes, wow does that feel good!

I am so thankful for this talent, but even more so when I can use it to help others. Whether you are a small start-up trying to announce your place in this world, or a business looking for a new start or a revamped image or even an established business wanting to re-define its mission; designing a strong logo as part of your brand identity is crucial. Believe me, I don't get it right every time. Even with this reaction, we still worked together to tweak and shape their image past what I originally presented. And that's ok. They are invested wholehearted into their vision but may not have the capability of putting it all together. Working together we produced something we can all be proud of! And that is what it feels like to NAIL IT!
